Hippo 2, Little Sebago Lake’s milfoil suction dredge, will be working in the middle and lower lake in the month of September. So far, dredge operators have collected more than 500 bags of milfoil from the upper lake.
Residents are asked to place markers, preferably yellow in color, over milfoil patches in front of their residences. This ensures the dredging team can easily identify where the plants are to start the removal process.
It is important to remove the very small sprouts of milfoil because in a year’s time, they can become quite substantial in size. The lake association is looking for volunteers to help pick up fragments when the boat is in operation. A kayak and net is all one needs.
Needed also are divers and other crew members. Experience with milfoil removal preferred but not necessary. Wages: Divers $20 per hour. Crew Captain $15 per hour, Deck Crew $12 per hour.
