A four-week lecture and discussion series focusing on the New Testament and led by John Munroe, a theology professor at St. Joseph’s College, begins Wednesday, Sept. 20, at St. Bartholomew Church in Cape Elizabeth. The classes will be held from 7-8:30 p.m.

The series will offer insight into the purpose of the New Testament writings, and will include opportunities for small-group sharing, questions and answers. St. Bartholomew’s Teen Bible Study will kick off with this series. The topics for each week are:

Sept. 20: Introduction (including the notion of inspiration, biblical critical methods, historical truth, timeline of the New Testament writings, and the formation of the canon of the New Testament)

Sept. 27: Paul’s writings

Oct. 4: The Synoptic Gospels – Mark, Matthew, and Luke

Oct. 11: The Gospel of John

Munroe has taught graduate and undergraduate theology courses at St. Joseph’s College, including New Testament, Ecclesiology and Foundations of Catholic Theology, since 1992.

The program is free and the community is invited to attend. Pre-registration is requested so that materials can be prepared. Those interested should call the parish office at 799-5528 by Wednesday, Sept. 13.
