Editor,
I have always enjoyed a collegial relationship with your newspaper, and readily provided information and updates to your reporters.
Prior to the LRW, I had a special friend with Robert Lowell from the American Journal. Most recently, Peggy Roberts and I spoke almost weekly on the historical sites and developments in Standish.
Both Bob and Peggy wrote both sides of every story they covered and reminded their contacts of the need for objectivity.
When I read the tabloid-type story in last Friday’s edition, I was dumbfounded. The writer said that “Dudek failed to return repeated phone calls.” Heidi MacVane never tried to contact me nor did she make even a feeble attempt to corroborate much of the story she wrote. I have always been prompt about returning reporter’s phone calls, to allow both sides of a story to be told.
I was excited when the Lakes Region Weekly began because I felt Standish would get more exposure and positive stories about its citizens and way of life. Unfortunately, it appears that inexperienced reporters feel an emotionally charged story sells more papers than a legitimate one.
I’m very disappointed by your lack of depth and integrity as evidenced by this inaccurate and biased story.
