Editor,

The Register of Deeds office may seem like a less-glamorous race than others this election season, but at nearly one-third of the county budget, it is important that we put the right person in that office, and that person is Donna Chapman.

Donna has worked as a Realtor for many years and knows about all of the problems that the real estate industry is having with the current Register of Deeds office – and she is determined to correct these problems. She is dedicated, hard working, and wants to modernize the Register of Deeds office and return it to the task of serving the public.

Although the current Register of Deeds, Pamela Lovely, stated in a campaign ad that she “established the first online access to the Registry’s land record database,” it was, in fact, first established by the Deeds office in Hancock County back in 1999, long before Ms. Lovely was working in the Registry in Cumberland County according to employees that currently work there, and public record.

What we need now is not cheap campaign gimmicks and business as usual, we need to get a new vision into the office so that it can do its job again. I’m voting “Donna for Deeds” on Nov. 7.
