Members of United Bikers of Maine were rguests at the Postal Service’s new Southern Maine Processing and Distribution Center in Scarborough recently, as Maine District Manager Julius Locklear recognized them for the many charitable activities in which they participate.
Locklear presented Fulton Butler, state president of the bikers’ group, with a framed, engraved enlargement of the Postal Service’s new American Motorcycles stamps. He thanked Butler and his fellow motorcyclists for turning out in droves for the annual Toy Run, held every September to benefit children throughout Maine.
“By helping to organize the annual Maine Toy Run, the United Bikers of Maine continue their long tradition of participation in charitable and community events, events which benefit many worthy causes and institutions,” Locklear said.
United Bikers of Maine is a motorcycle advocacy organization
representing the interests of its 3,000-plus members. It
promotes and encourages the safe and lawful operation of all motorcycles and works to protect the rights of motorcyclists. The group is involved in numerous charitable activities throughout the state, and unites its members to support fundraising efforts for organizations that serve local communities, as well. In October, the group participated in the Second Annual Motorcycle Poker Run, which benefited the Harvest Hills Animal Shelter in Fryeburg.
Butler, a 21-year veteran of Maine law enforcement, is the retired chief of police in Wiscasset.
