CAPTION ONLY:
This poster by Merrill Porterfield and Karli An Gilbert, sixth-graders at Scarborough Middle School, has won the state DARE Officers Poster Contest. The students, who as fifth-graders had won the local poster contest, each received a total of $250 in prize money. The poster has been framed and is on display at the Scarborough Police Department. The DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program also named Sophie Warren and Ian Morris, fifth-graders at Wentworth Intermediate School, as winners of a contest to create a message to record on the Scarborough Police Department’s music-on-hold program telephone system. Their messages will be recorded by them shortly and they will be awarded their $100 prize at DARE graduation on Jan. 16.
