Rebecca Mitchell has won the Scarborough Middle School National Geographic Geography Bee.

All 804 students recently participated in the classroom preliminary competition, which is similar to a spelling bee, but asks geography questions.

The preliminary competition included seven rounds of questions about U.S. geography, state geographic comparisons, U.S. cities, continents, cultural geography and world geography that every students answered. From the classroom scores the 10 participants for school finals were chosen. Seven students received perfect scores of 7 out of 7 and automatically advanced to the school finals. Eleven students answered six correctly and went through a runoff to fill the final three spots.

Mitchell will now take a test in hopes of qualifying for the state finals at the end of March.

The rest of the top 10 winners in the school included:

Second, David Bibeau; third, Matt Atherton; fourth, Chris Defilipp; fifth, Martin Schelasin; sixth (tie), Nicole Backhaus, Michael Hall and Will Lynch; ninth, Jon Ofiara; 10th, Alex Goodwin.
