Woman’s club hosts district meeting, art show
Evelyn Meserve, District 1 president, hosted the GFWC/Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs district meeting on March 31 at Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church.
“Everyone enjoyed the delicious luncheon prepared by Marion Broaddus and Elizabeth Young, members of the host club,” said Carol Quint.
Forty-two pieces of art submitted by high school students from Bath, Gorham, Kezar Falls, Limerick and Westbrook were judged by local artists Andy Curran and Jeremy Greene. Artwork by four students was selected to be entered in the GFWC/MFWC state art contest May 8 in Bangor. The students are Megan Strout, grade 10 at Gorham High School, along with Massabesic High School students Rahim ThornHill, grade 11; Katherine Pierce, grade 11; and Nicole Kalil, grade 10.
Representatives of the GFWC/Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs at the Westbrook meeting were Jane Shaw of Marshfield, president-elect; Marjorie Burton, recording secretary, Brunswick; Barbara Hathaway, Wilton, arts chairman; Sally Manchester, Limerick, immediate past state president; Nancy Curran, Westbrook, investments committee member; and Nancy Kenty, Gorham, membership committee chairperson and co-president of the Gorham Woman’s Club.
Officers from District 1 clubs who attended were Elaine Spiller, president GFWC/Westbrook Woman’s Club; Alice Keddy, co-president Gorham Woman’s Club; Kendra Chubbuck, vice president Cosmopolitan Club, Bath; and Alice Eschrich-Simeti, president GFWC/Research Club, Limerick.
Quint said several members of each club also attended.
Seniors to dine
Westbrook Senior Citizens will meet at noon on Monday, April 16, in Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., for a meatloaf dinner.
David Sparks and his animals will entertain following the meal and meeting.
The seniors are planning a trip to Niagara Falls next month.

Prides Corner Garden Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at Prides Corner Church, 335 Pride St., Westbrook.
Bruce Watt will speak on plant disease and control.

Westbrook-Warren Congregational Church, 810 Main St., is sponsoring a rummage sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 14.
Prides Corner rummage sale
A large variety of white elephant items will be available at a rummage sale 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 21, at Prides Corner Congregational Church, 235 Pride St.
Cutter excels at UMO
Vanessa Cutter was recently recognized for her academic excellence at the University of Maine at Orono.
A junior majoring in journalism, Cutter is the daughter of Douglas and Anna Cutter of Westbrook.
Cutter is a 2004 graduate of Westbrook High School.
Day of Caring in Westbrook
The Westbrook Community is organizing its Day of Caring, a community cleanup 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 5.
The cleanup observes Join Hands Day, a national day of volunteering. Rain date for Westbrook’s cleanup is 1-4 p.m. Sunday, May 6.
Gospel businessmen’s breakfast
The local chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International will meet for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14, in the American Legion hall, 17 Dunn St.
Steve Wilson will speak. Wilson and his wife, Diane, are preparing to serve as missionaries in Ecuador with a Christian world radio organization.
Breakfast cost is $8; $6, seniors.
