Several Scarborough projects are included in the Maine Department of Transportation Capital Work Plan for 2008-2009, according to State Rep. John McDonough of Scarborough. Anticipating capital transportation funding, the department’s improvements include:
• Highway resurfacing on Route 1 beginning .05 miles north of the Saco town line and extending north 2.3 miles.
• Highway resurfacing on Pleasant Hill Road beginning at Hackmatack Road and extending .48 miles to Route 77.
• Highway resurfacing on Payne Road beginning at Route 114 and extending north .71 miles.
• Crack sealing of the Scarborough Connector beginning at Route 1 and extending north 1.96 miles to Interstate 295 northbound.
• Designing and constructing 2.60 miles of a portion of the Eastern Trail between Pine Point Road in Scarborough and Old Cascade Road in Old Orchard.
The Legislature recently approved a $136 million bond proposal dedicated to transportation infrastructure needs, which will be presented to the voters in June of 2007 and June of 2008. If passed, the bond proceeds, combined with resources proposed in the governor’s Highway Fund Budget proposal and other resource proposals pending in the Legislature, total $754 million in capital projects, plus $40.7 million for multimodal operating assistance.
Statewide, the work plan provides $623.6 million for highways and bridges, enabling reconstruction or significant improvement of 50 bridges and more than 78 miles of highway. It also funds pavement preservation treatments and pavement holding-treatments for about 1,250 miles.
McDonough encouraged residents to contact the Bureau of Planning at 624-3300 if they would like additional information. The work plan for the state is available on the the Web site www.mainedot.gov.
