Beginning July 1, qualified residents in the Portland Water District service area will be able to receive a discount on their water bill.

Earlier this year, the Portland Water District developed a low-income program to provide qualified residential customers with an average $62 or 30 percent annual water rate discount. The low-income program will be administered through People’s Regional Opportunity Program (PROP) and is based on Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) guidelines. To apply or for more information, customers should contact PROP at 842-2988.

“The ever-increasing cost of living within our member communities has made it difficult for many of the Portland Water District’s customers to make ends meet. The goal of this program is to help alleviate some of these burdens by reducing eligible customers’ water bills,” stated Portland Water District Trustee Erek Gaines.

In addition, the Portland Water District funds a home plumbing assistance program also administered through PROP.
