An art auction and party called “Dream-Believe-Do’ is planned for Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m., at the Portland Club in Portland, with proceeds benefiting stem cell transplant research and advance cord blood banking and educational outreach through the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Artists who would like to help a fellow artist’s cause are being sought to donate work.

The event is being organized by Colleen Graves, wife of Greg Graves, 49, a Cape Elizabeth artist. She said her husband would not be alive this summer if he had not undergone a clinical trial procedure known as an umbilical cord stem cell transplant on July 21, 2006.

The Meadowview Lane resident had been diagnosed with an advanced stage of blood cancer known as non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma that resisted conventional therapy.

“Greg’s recovery has been a remarkable success by every medical standard,” Colleen Graves said in a press release. His latest PET scan and bone marrow biopsy on June 27 showed no signs of cancer, and she said she wants “to celebrate the wonderful news by giving back to the incredible people at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.” His transplant was performed at the partnering Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston.

She welcomes donations of art work and other services to the auction. All contributors will be featured on the event’s Web site at www.dream-believe-do.org.
