The Scarborough Public Library will be closed for three weeks to complete deferred interior maintenance, including carpet replacement. The library will close at 8 p.m., on Monday, Aug. 13, and reopen at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6.
“We understand the hardship that suspension of services will create for so many of our library users,” said Nancy Crowell, library director, “so we have extended our hours on the last day before closing.”
In the interim, Crowell reminded residents that use of the Portland Public Library is free for those who reside in Cumberland County. Proof of residence is needed to obtain a library card. The Elm Street Parking Garage, located in the area of the Portland Public Library, also offers free parking for the first half-hour.
Crowell said the maintenance will provide an opportunity to re-configure some of the service areas within the library.
“Everything must be moved,” she said, ” so we are planning some improvements to the space allocation of our technology stations, circulation desk and material displays in both the adult and youth services areas. Behind the scenes we will also be upgrading our network services and extending wireless access and security.”
