An official groundbreaking ceremony is being held Friday at 9 a.m. to celebrate the start of construction on a Comfort Inn and Suites, shown here in an architect’s rendering. The three-story, 69-room hotel is located on Route 1 near Scarborough Downs Road, where the Classic Inn used to be. According to owner Jay Yeety, who also owns the Roadway Inn in Saco, the location is an attractive place to open a hotel because “Scarborough is a growing area.” Yeety expects the hotel to open in spring or early summer 2008.
