Show goes on

Despite rain, the first Gorham Art Fair Saturday was a success, organizers said.

The fair attracted 30 exhibiters and a steady stream of visitors, many arriving under umbrellas, at the Robie Gym on South Street. Boy Scouts from Troop 73 manned concessions stands. Scoutmaster Kevin Southard said the fair was an opportunity for scouts to contribute community service.

Fair organizers are already planning next year’s event. “We’re going to learn a lot this year,” Jeremy Greene of the Art Guru said Saturday, after popping his head through a hole in the headless Hessian set created by Noel Hill, a senior at the University of Southern Maine.

“It has been great, even with the weather,” Greene said.
