Central Maine Power Co. has begun work on a new substation on Mussey Road to serve the new retail and commercial development in the Gateway at Scarborough complex on the Haigis Parkway.
The substation will include a control house, a large transformer that will feed two new distribution circuits, plus state-of-the-art communications equipment that is standard in today’s electric substations. The company said the facility will be built to accommodate an additional circuit should future growth require it. Initially, one of the circuits from the Mussey Road substation will take some of the load off existing lines in the rapidly growing area.
“This area of Scarborough is set to grow, and our system is growing right along with it,” said CMP spokesman John Carroll.
“The Mussey Road Substation part of an estimated $130 million we have invested in our system this year.”
Crews broke ground on the site in November. The substation is expected to be commissioned in April of 2008.
