The Scarborough High boys basketball team fell to 8-5 on the season following a 59-43 loss at Portland Monday. Both the Storm and the Bulldogs entered the game with identical 8-4 marks and despite the final score, the game was evenly matched.

Portland’s Jake Longstaff hit a jumper at the close of the first half that gave the Bulldogs a 28-18 lead at the break. That basket and two three-pointers from Koang Thok in the late stages of the second quarter handed the advantage to Portland in what had been a nip and tuck contest for most of the first half.

The Red Storm got strong contributions from Ian Philbrick, Chris Hughes, Andy Pogar, Logan Oliver and Jim Hiltner.

Scarborough was trying to bounce back from a 54-42 home loss to undefeated Cheverus on Saturday. The Storm trailed by just two points (34-32) entering the fourth quarter before the Stags took control in the final eight minutes of play to secure the win.

Chris Hughes led all Scarborough scorers with 12 points. Andy Pogar contributed nine points and Ben O’Connor added eight.

Scarborough is ranked fifth in the most recent West A Heal Point standings released on Tuesday morning.

The Red Storm gets back into action on Friday night when they host Massabesic (1-12).
