On Jan. 16 at 10:30 a.m., police responded to a resident on Black Point Road who received a phone call from an unknown number. The caller claimed to work for the Social Security Administration, and asked the resident to give her bank account information so that she could receive a $500 Social Security deposit. After the call the resident checked with a family member and then froze her account immediately. She didn’t lose any money, and police were unable to trace the suspicious caller.

Runaway

On Jan. 17 at around 3 p.m., police responded to a lost person claim from the Department of Health and Human Services. A male juvenile had left the custody of the state and had fled to a friend’s house. The department agreed to let the youth stay with his friend.

Fake checks

On Jan. 18 at approximately 2 p.m., police responded to a report of fraud/embezzled checks at Michael’s arts and crafts store on Payne Road. An employee reported that two females came into the store wearing dark sunglasses and hats, and attempted to purchase items with travelers checks that were missing holograms and watermarks. After the employee refused the checks, the women fled the store in an SUV with Rhode Island plates.
