The second in a four-part series, “Cultivating Community: A Four Course Food-for-Thought Series on Scarborough’s Edible Past, Present and Future,” will be held Thursday, Feb. 28, at 6:30 p.m., at the Scarborough Public Library.

Roger Doiron, an advocate for local and regional food systems and founder and director of Kitchen Gardeners International, will lead a discussion focusing on protecting both the land and sea food resource base. The session will look at Scarborough’s existing food resource base, the pressures it faces and what might be done to protect and enhance it in the future.

Doiron also works to promote vibrant local, state and regional food systems through his work with the Eat Local Foods Coalition and the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Working Group. In addition to his advocacy and organizing work, Doiron is a freelance writer and public speaker specializing in sustainable cuisine.

The Friends of the Scarborough Library is presenting the program. For more information, contact the library at 883-4723 or visit www.scarboroughcrossroads.org/libraryfriends .
