Fraudulent charges
On Monday, July 28, at 2:56 p.m., police responded to Silver Brook Circle for a report of fraudulent credit card use. According to police, the complainant had received a bill for $515 worth of new charges on a credit card that the complainant hadn’t used since February. The new charges occurred on July 7-8 at Kohl’s in Westbrook. The incident remains under investigation.
Clubs gone
On Tuesday, July 29, at 5:17 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Eastern Marsh Road and Pine Point Road for a report of a theft. According to police, the complainant had parked his car at the nature center and gone fishing. When he went back to retrieve his tackle box from the trunk of the car, which he had left open, he found that a set of golf clubs worth $2,500 had been stolen out of the trunk. The complainant said he had been fishing about 50 yards away from the car and did not see any suspicious people around.
Axle thief
On Wednesday, July 30, at 2:20 p.m., police responded to Gorham Road for a theft report. According to police, the complainant said a tractor drive axle worth $3,000 had been stolen out of his driveway. The axle was intended to be installed in a tractor the complainant was repairing. Police said the stolen axle was later located at a metal recycling facility in Arundel and the thief has been identified and will be charged.
Knives found
On Wednesday, July 30, at 3:03 p.m., two people came into the police station with two knives wrapped in a towel. The duo stated that they had found the knives on Phillips Street. Police took custody of the knives and have not identified them as being used in any crime.
Arrested after pursuit
On Thursday, July 31, at 12:52 p.m., a police officer observed a resident he knew to have lost his license behind the wheel of a vehicle on Rigby Road. Police said when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to stop and then drove off the road and fled into the woods. Several more officers joined the pursuit. The driver later turned himself in and police identified him as Jeffrey W. Hitchcock, 25, of 24 Pleasant Hill Road. Hitchcock was charged with operating after habitual offender revocation, failing to stop for a police officer, violation of bail conditions of release and operating without a license.
Kids steal Xbox
On Thursday, July 31, at 4:58 p.m., police responded to Foxcroft Drive for a theft complaint. According to police, two juvenile males entered a residence and stole the hard drive from an Xbox while the resident was home, but upstairs packing for an upcoming move. The resident did observe the two males running out through a sliding glass door and toward Route 1. The Xbox drive, valued at $150, was the only item missing.
Head-on collision
On Thursday, July 31, at 6:53 p.m., according to police, an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle traveling 71 mph in a posted 45-mph zone near the intersection of County Road and Grovo Lane. The officer turned around to pursue the vehicle and as he did so noticed an occupant throw something out of the passenger side of the vehicle. When the officer caught up to the suspect vehicle, he discovered that it had driven head-on into a tree at the intersection of Grovo Lane and County Road. He also saw the driver attempting to flee into the woods. According to police, the officer gave chase and threatened, “I’m going to Tase you if you don’t stop,” at which point the suspect stopped, police said. The driver was taken into custody and identified as Dana R. Bailey, 36, of Gorham, police said. Bailey was charged with driving to endanger, leaving the scene of an accident, refusing to submit to arrest and violating bail conditions of release.
Drinking in public
On Thursday, July 31, at 9:38 p.m., police responded to a report of a disturbance at Wal-Mart on Payne Road. According to police, three males wearing dark clothing and drinking Heineken beer were sitting on a bench on the sidewalk in front of the store and refusing to leave when asked by the store manager. The three were warned about drinking in public, police said. Also, all three had expired passports and that information was given to immigration officials, police said. The police report did not indicate the three men’s nationalities.
Drug possession
On Thursday, July 31, at 11:04 p.m., police responded to a driving complaint near the intersection of Mitchell Hill Road and Bittersweet Lane. According to witnesses, a vehicle had been observed crossing over the center lane and almost striking oncoming vehicles. The suspected vehicle was located and stopped on Mitchell Hill Road, police said. Police determined that the driver was not intoxicated; however, police did find a bottle of vodka in the vehicle and determined that no occupant was old enough to legally possess it. Also, police said prescription drug pills were found. Tucker H. Minton, 19, of 671 Auburn St., Portland, was charged with possession of marijuana. Thai V. Chiem, 20, of 166 Sherwood St., Portland, was charged with unlawful possession of a scheduled drug and violating bail conditions of release.
Suspicious persons
On Friday, Aug. 1, at 11:23 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious persons near the intersection of Broadturn and Bunham roads but were unable to locate anyone. According to police, a witness had reported seeing three males on the corner approaching vehicles with golf clubs.
Suspicious vehicle
On Saturday, Aug. 2, at 3 a.m., police responded after a caller reported a two-door vehicle with its lights off was driving up and down the road. Police located a vehicle matching the caller’s description and arrested Sameer Majeed, 19, of 68 Munjoy Hill South, Portland, for operating while a license is suspended or revoked for operating under the influence.
Lost and found
On Saturday, Aug. 2, at 1:46 p.m., police responded to Wal-Mart on Payne Road to meet with a complainant who stated that $3,000 in cash was missing from her purse. After taking the report and leaving the scene, however, the police officer received a message from the complainant stating that the money had been found and all $3,000 had been returned to her.
Makeup theft
On Saturday, Aug. 2, at 7:55 p.m., police responded to Wal-Mart on Payne Road for a report of a shoplifter. According to police, the shoplifter had been observed stealing cosmetic items and concealing them in her purse. She was detained by a security officer when she attempted to leave the store and subsequently was found to have about $150 worth of makeup in her possession, police said. Esther L. Brown, 36, of 82 Green St., Biddeford, was charged with theft and violating bail conditions of release.
No place for a nap
On Sunday, Aug. 3, at 1:59 a.m., police responded to Scarborough Memorial Cemetery on Old Blue Point Road for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Police discovered a female sleeping in her vehicle in the cemetery. Police say the woman, who had a Rhode Island driver’s license, stated that she was catching up on her sleep on her way to a birthday party in South Portland. The woman was told to find another location to catch up on sleep.
Fight with ex
On Sunday, Aug. 3, at 8:17 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at Blue Point Motel on Route 1. According to police, the ex-girlfriend of a man staying at the motel had arrived with their two children to confront the man and his current girlfriend, who was staying with him. According to police, the woman got into an argument with both her former boyfriend and his current girlfriend, then punched the current girlfriend in the face in front of the two children. While the ex-boyfriend was comforting one of the children, the ex-girlfriend punched the new girlfriend in the face again, police said. Allison Blais, 31, of Kennebunk, was issued a summons for assault.
