With painted faces and many in costume, boisterous Scarborough High School students cut a swath of color and deafening noise throughout the gym Friday at a Spirit Week rally finale.

Spirit Week is a series of events that aims to energize the students for the homingcoming football game. The pep rally was the culmination of full Spirit Week and was followed by the football game later than day. Scarborough took on Portland and lost narrowly, 13-14.

Teachers organized competitions for each grade, including tugs of war, three-legged races, duels involving tennis balls attached to panty hose worn over students heads, wheelbarrow races, and piggy-back polo races where students wielded sock-covered hockey sticks and hit large rubber balls. Winning heats in each category led to finals and prizes.

When it was all over, Patricia Conan, school principal, accepted a $1,050 check for the school from the athletic association.
