The Capers (7-0) remained unbeaten with a 42-6 road win over Greely (3-4) on Friday night in Cumberland.

Tommy Foden paced the potent Cape offensive attack with over 250 combined yards on rushes and receptions, as well as two touchdowns. Quarterback Ezra Wolfinger added TD passes to Finn Melanson and Conor Lawler. Kyle Piscopo had a long touchdown run.

Cape hosts Lake Region (0-7) at Hannaford Field at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Capers will look to move to 8-0 against the winless Lakers, who are coming off a 34-26 home loss to Gray-New Gloucester. A week from Friday, Cape travels to Rumford to take on Mountain Valley (7-0) in a highly anticipated matchup of two of the state’s top teams in Class B.

Riots fall to Deering to snap winning streak

The South Portland football team couldn’t add to its two-game winning streak last Friday night when it visited undefeated Deering. The Red Riots dropped to 2-5 with a 27-7 defeat at the hands of the Rams (7-0).

South Portland took a first-quarter lead on Dave Hardison’s touchdown pass to Mike Foley, but Deering seized control in the second quarter. Running back Jack Heary rushed in for a score and tight end Ernie Salamone caught a short TD pass from Jamie Ross to put the Rams up 13-7 at halftime.

In the third quarter, Deering’s Devon Fitzgerald returned a fumble for a touchdown and Heary added a long TD run to end the Red Riots’ upset bid.

South Portland wraps up the season on Saturday at home against Portland at 1:30 p.m. The Bulldogs (2-5) are coming off a 40-0 loss at home to Bonny Eagle.
