A Sebago man remained in critical condition Thursday after being shot at his home Wednesday night by Cumberland County Sheriff’s officers.
Douglas Tenczar, 41, of 31 Ledge Drive was wounded by deputies who said he was armed when he confronted them. Tenczar was flown to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he is listed in critical condition, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Officers were called to Tenczar’s home after two people filed a complaint alleging a man had shown a handgun and threatened them in what officials described as a “road rage” incident.
When the officers arrived at 31 Ledge Drive, Tenczar approached them with a rifle or a shotgun. The officers then opened fire.
The patrol sergeant and deputy involved in the shooting have not been identified. Members of the Maine Attorney General’s Office were called in to investigate, as is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
