(Editor’s note: Karen D’Andrea, a candidate for Scarborough Town Council, disputed the accuracy of her candidate profile that ran in last week’s Current. Despite the fact that it is not this newspaper’s policy to run letters from candidates the week before election, she was provided the opportunity to publish a brief clarification.)

In my candidate’s profile in last week’s Current, there were inaccuracies and important omissions.

I fully support Superintendent David Doyle and never said he needed to get caught up. I also never said $1 million was spent on the Black Point park.

Finally, knowing my outspoken stance on the racino, I wasn’t given the opportunity to explain why I think it’s detrimental to Scarborough. Gambling is not an economic savior. It’s a matter of something that’s too good to be true. A report out this week shows cities doing well in this economy aren’t relying on gambling. It has to do with educational opportunities and high-paying, high-tech type jobs.

Having knocked on over 2,000 doors, I’m finding support regardless of my stand on the racino because I understand the current economic climate and what will work for Scarborough for the future. Find more details at www.KarenForScarborough.com.
