As days grow colder and darker, celebrations bring residents together to create warmth and light.

Events in Naples, Bridgton, Sebago and Standish provide local families with the opportunity to light trees, create decorations and celebrate the season with their neighbors.

Naples Main Street will be hosting Season’s Greetings Dec. 7 at the Naples Village Green. Hay rides will be available from 3:30-5:30 p.m., followed by children’s games in the town gymnasium starting at 4:30 p.m., holiday caroling from 5:30-6 p.m. and a visit from Santa at 6 p.m. There will also be hot chocolate and cookies available in the gym.

The Sebago Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce will host Season’s Greetings Nov. 29 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Cross Insurance parking lot at the corner of Route 115 and 35. Holiday caroling will begin at 4:30 and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available during the whole hour. The tree lighting will start at 5 p.m., to be followed by hot chocolate and cookies.

In Bridgton, the sixth annual festival of lights will take place Saturday, Dec. 6. The parade will kick off at 5:30 p.m. from the Stevens Brook Elementary School and follow Main Street, ending at the Bridgton Community Center.

The parade will include at least 12 floats, a juggler and horses with buggies, according to parade organizer Ken Murphy. Santa and Mrs. Claus will take up the rear.

Starting at 6:30 p.m. at the community center on Depot Street, there will be a tree lighting followed by visits with the Claus’, refreshments and crafts for children.

Sebago, also, will have a tree lighting ceremony. At 4:30 p.m. Dec. 5, residents will meet at the Sebago Elementary School for crafts and refreshments, and at 5 p.m. they will light the tree.

Several events in Standish provide fun and warmth this season. The tree lighting ceremony will take place at Standish Town Hall Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. and will include live music, caroling and refreshments.

Saint Joseph’s College will host an afternoon with Santa at the Mercy Hall Cafa Dec. 6 from 2-4 p.m. families are welcome to come make crafts, decorate cookies and light a tree with Santa. Standish Recreation has worked with Saint Joseph’s College to make arrangements for Santa to call children in the Standish area Dec. 4 between 6-7 p.m. Forms, which are available in the Town Hall, must be returned by Dec. 3 in the afternoon.
