Residents of Scarborough who would like to apply for the 2007 Maine Residents Property Tax and Rent Refund “Circuit Breaker” program can get help filling out the form at the Scarborough Public Library.
Volunteers will be at the library, 48 Gorham Road, on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Half-hour appointments will be scheduled to allow one-on-one assistance.

Residents may qualify for refunds if they have no spouse or dependents and had a 2007 household income of $60,000 or less, or have a spouse or dependent and had a 2007 household income of $80,000 or less. In addition, their 2007 property taxes must be more that 4 percent of their 2007 household income, or their rent paid in 2007 must be more than 20 percent of their household income that year. Low-income seniors do not need to meet these requirements to apply.
