SUBHEAD-Falmouth hockey splits a pair

After a 4-2 home loss to Scarborough last Thursday night, the Falmouth boys’ hockey team bounced right back Saturday as the Yachtsmen downed visiting Kennebunk 4-1 behind two goals from junior Dan Hanley. Monday, however, Falmouth was beaten by the Red Storm again, this time 4-1 at Scarborough. The Yachtsmen (10-5 and second to Gorham in the Western Class A Heal Points standings) is at Portland Thursday, hosts Bonny Eagle Saturday and closes the regular season at Greely Monday. In Western B, Yarmouth is 4-9-2 after beating York 3-2 and losing 3-0 to Leavitt. Freshman Marshall Brunelle was recently chosen as the Western Class B Coaches’ Association January Rookie of the Month after scoring seven goals and adding three assists. The Clippers (sixth in the Heals) visit Greely Thursday, then close the year at home against Camden Saturday and Noble Monday.

SUBHEAD-More honors for Davis
Former Greely High standout Erica Davis continues to impress at the University of Maine-Presque Isle. Davis was named the Volleyball Player of the Year in the Sunrise Conference and was just named NAIA Player of the Week in basketball. Davis is a senior community recreation major and also plays softball for the Owls.
SUBHEAD-Falmouth Little League registration
Falmouth Little League player and coach registration is now open for the 2009 season. T-ball, baseball and softball can register at falmouthlittleleague.net. The cost is $60 for players ages 5 to 12 and $85 for players ages 13 to 16.

SUBHEAD-Tucker’s Boardercross for Cancer this weekend
The fourth annual Tucker’s Boardercross for Cancer, a fundraiser for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, which also honors the life of Yarmouth’s Tucker Olmsted, will be held Saturday and Sunday at Sunday River. The Olmsted family and MCCP have established a Special Purpose Fund, dedicated to research, development and promotion for complementing approaches in the treatment of cancer. Shirts and hoodies, raffle and auction items will also be available.

SUBHEAD-Lacrosse officials wanted
The Maine Lacrosse Officials Association is holding its annual men’s high school referee training program Feb. 22 and March 1 (with March 8 as a snow day) at North Yarmouth Academy. Officials are needed for boys’ lacrosse for the upcoming season.
