Children’s Book Week – May 10
In celebration of Children’s Book Week, the library will have children’s books for sale at very reasonable prices, during regular library hours, which are Sunday, Monday and Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Non-Fiction/Classics Book Group
This group has chosen Duane Elgin’s “Voluntary Simplicity” for their May discussion. This revised and updated version shows the author’s method of how to move back to basics and live with balance. All interested readers are invited to join the group on Wednesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at the library. The book will be available upon request at the library. Sparks Ark
Sparks Ark is a fascinating, fun and very entertaining program given by David Sparks, a former animal control officer in Westbrook who now has his own business rehabilitating and taking care of injured wildlife for a living. On Wednesday, May 20, at 2 p.m., he will bring some of his live animal friends with him for you to see up close and tell some humorous stories of his experiences with them, as well as interesting facts about their habits and habitats. This program is made possible by a grant from Cornerstones of Science, a science literacy initiative, of which the Raymond Village Library is a partner. There is a sign-up sheet at the library, or you can also call the library at 655-4283.
Reading Group
The reading group will meet May 27 at 7 p.m. at the library to discuss “Emma” by Jane Austen. The book will be available at the library upon request. The group encourages all readers who have enjoyed Jane Austen’s books to come and join in what should be a lively and interesting discussion. Please call the library at 655-4283 for more information.
Maine Infonet Download Library
The Raymond Village Library is a participating member of Maine Infonet Download Library, which means that if you are a patron of the library you will be able to download audio books and music from your computer for your use. Download at: download.maineinfonet.org.
You will need:
1. An active Raymond Village Library card number. If you are not sure of your number or its status, contact the library at 655-4283 or [email protected].
2. The Over Drive “console” software, which you install on your own computer or other device. It’s available right at the Download Library Web site and is a quick and easy installation.
You’ll also find all kinds of help, a guided tour of the service and a quick start guide. Not finding what you want for books? Check back often. This is a new service, and titles are being added continuously as they become available.
Plant Ssale
ATTENTION: All gardeners, plant and flower lovers, now is the time for cleaning out those flowerbeds, dividing and replacing your favorite blooms.
The Raymond Village Library’s Plant Sale is set for June 13, 7 a.m. to noon, and organizers can use all those extra plants you will be thinning out or removing to make room for new seedlings. This year the library offering vegetable and herb seedlings to people to grow their own organic vegetables. They would appreciate any extra herb or vegetable seedlings that you could contribute.
Please put the plants you have saved aside and plan to bring them to the library on June 12, the day before the sale, from 4 to 7 p.m. Perennials are very popular, as are groundcovers, herbs flowering shrubs, vines, bedding plants and other annuals. Houseplants are also welcome. For more information on donating plants, call Susan at 655-1010.
In conjunction with the plant sale, paperback books and gardening books will be on sale in the library. Donations for the book sale may be brought to the library any time during regular library hours.
Large print and audio books
The library has recently added new selections to both the large print books and audio books, thanks to the generosity of the Raymond Lions Club, who have helped them establish an ongoing collection. The Lions Clubs are known for their involvement with eye health. The Lions Clubs across the world collect unused eyeglasses as on of their many community projects. The Raymond Village Library is one of the drop-off places for eyeglasses that are no longer being used.
