Several Cape Elizabeth police officers were recently recognized for outstanding work either in the field or at the training academy.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office presented a certificate to Detective Paul Fenton for his efforts coordinating an investigation into stolen checks worth $17,000.

Fenton, in conjunction with area police departments and the Postal Inspectors Office, helped solidify a case against two suspects. One suspect was sentenced to 30 months in jail, and the other was sentenced to four months in jail. Both were ordered to pay full restitution.

Meanwhile, Community Liaison Officer Mark Dorval received a commendation from the South Portland Police Department for his efforts in a joint prescription-drug drop-off.

The drop-off collected unneeded medications from residents in both communities, lessening the chance of abuse or accidental ingestion. More than 100,000 doses of medication were removed from the homes of Cape and South Portland residents.

Also, Cape police Officer Rory Diffin, who recently graduated in a class of 53 from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro, received special recognition at graduation. He took home the Academic Proficiency Award and earned the Mechanics of Arrest, Restraint and Control Proficiency Award.
