More than 25 events for tots to teens are planned for the Summer Reading Program at the Scarborough Public Library; all are free and open to the public. The program started this week and runs continues through Aug. 14.

In addition to weekly reading games and ongoing Children’s Room and Teen Scene activities, the library will offer a series of programs focused on the arts and sciences.

“Magic by Scott Jameson” kicks off the program on Friday, 26, at 3 p.m. Programming will continue with “Dance and Stretch” on Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m. Experienced jazz and ballet dancer, Sarah Kearns will teach basic steps to kids in grades K-2.

A unique “Instrument Petting Zoo” on Monday, June 29, from 3-4:30 p.m. is an “all ages” event at which string, wind, percussion and electronic musicians will demonstrate how their instruments produce music. Kids will be able to touch – and in some cases play – the instruments.

On Wednesday, July 1, at 10:30 a.m., drummer Annegret Baier will teach basic theory and rhythm using her collection of percussion instruments. This program is open to children in grades 3-5.

The library will also offer two weekly storytimes, on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 20, for children from birth to primary ages. Pajamarama, a family favorite, will return at 6:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday in July and August.

Preregistration is required for some programming events. Visit www.library.scarborough.me.us for links to printable calendars and lists of all summer events. Program fliers will also be provided at the time of registration.
