Morse High to hold
Oscar party fundraiser

BATH — On Sunday, March 7, the Interact Club at Morse High School is sponsoring a free, live broadcast of the Oscars beginning at 7 p.m. at the high school.

The event is being held to raise donations for international nonprofit Oxfam. For more information about the event, please call 443-8250 ext. 1119.

Grant named February
Student of the Month

TOPSHAM — Elias Grant of Bowdoin, a senior at M. Ararat High School, has been named the February Student of the Month. 

Elias was nominated for excelling in living out the school’s mission statement.  He has been identified as a student who is respectful and tolerant. 

Sociology teacher Rick Bartlett nominated Grant in recognition of his high quality work assignments and for being a conscientious student.

Area students to attend
Boston Ballet program

TOPSHAM — Three ballet students from The Ballet School in Topsham earned an early admission placement in the Boston Ballet’s Summer Dance Program.

Adele Fisk, 12, of Pittston; Kayla Bobalek, 14, of Topsham; and Ellie Dickson, 9, of Freeport, were given priority acceptance to the program based on their January auditions.

Fiske also received a a merit scholarship of $1000 to attend the program.

The Ballet School is led by director Jessica Holloway and is located at 799 Middlesex Road in Topsham.

United States Rep. Chellie Pingree, D-Maine, recently presented Mt. Ararat High School student Ben Grotton, pictured right, the Silver Congressional Award at her Portland office. The award is given to students who show a commitment to public service, personal development, physical fitness and exploration goals. Grotton, a 17-year old from Topsham, was recognized for volunteering more than 200 hours through Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boy Scouts of America. Additionally, he played saxophone in the Maine All-state Music Festival, runs on the school track team, and planned a trip to the Boy Scouts’ Philmont ranch in New Mexico.
