Querrey sweeps singles, doubles titles at Morgan Keegan Championships

Sam Querrey rallied in the second-set tiebreaker and took advantage of a faltering John Isner in the third set Sunday, winning the Morgan Keegan Championships 6-7 (3), 7-6 (5), 6-3 at Memphis, Tenn.

Isner overpowered his doubles partner and future U.S. Davis Cup teammate in the first set but stumbled after taking a 5-2 lead in the second-set tiebreaker. Two points from defeat, Querrey fought back for his third career title.

Querrey and Isner later teamed up to beat Ross Hutchins and Jordan Kerr in the doubles final, 6-4, 6-4.

COPA TELMEX: Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain defeated compatriot David Ferrer 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the clay-court event at Buenos Aires, Argentina.

DUBAI CHAMPIONSHIPS: Top-ranked Roger Federer withdrew from this week’s tournament in the United Arab Emirates because of a lung infection.

A four-time winner in Dubai, Federer will rest for two weeks but is expected to play at Indian Wells, starting March 11.

GOLF

PGA: Cameron Beckman won the Mayakoba Golf Classic at Playa del Carmen, Mexico, for his third PGA Tour title, closing with a 3-under 67 for a two-stroke victory over Joe Durant and Brian Stuard.

Beckman, 40, started the day three strokes behind Durant but finished at 15-under 269. Durant shot a 72, and Stuard had a 66.

LPGA: Japanese star Ai Miyazato rallied to win the season-opening Honda PTT LPGA Thailand, holing a 30-foot birdie chip on the final hole for a 9-under 63 and a one-stroke victory over Norway’s Suzann Pettersen at Pattaya, Thailand.

Miyazato, six strokes behind Pettersen after the third round, was 6 under in a six-hole stretch midway through the round, then birdied three of the last six holes to match the tournament record of 21 under set by Pettersen in October 2007.

Pettersen finished with a 70. She had a chance to force a playoff but missed a 23-foot eagle putt on the par-5 18th.

CHAMPIONS TOUR: Bernhard Langer holed a 45-foot bunker shot from a plugged lie for eagle to beat John Cook on the first playoff hole in the Allianz Championship at Boca Raton, Fla.

Langer and Cook closed with 5-under 67s to finish at 17-under 199. Joey Sindelar (67) was third, a stroke back.

SOCCER

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE: Roman Pavlyuchenko scored two late goals as Tottenham moved into fourth place with a 3-0 victory at Wigan, while Manchester City and Liverpool labored to a scoreless draw.
