The New England regional championship of the Elks Hoop Shoot free-throw contest will be held at 9 a.m. March 27 at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. The event will feature 36 competitors from the region who have won local, district and state championships. Winners will advance to national finals at Springfield, Mass.


The Falmouth Sports Dance will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight April 9 at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland to raise money for Falmouth football, girls’ hockey and girls’ volleyball. There will be live music with the Tony Boffa Band, as well as door prizes, a cash bar and complimentary appetizers and desserts. Dress is casual. Tickets are $20. The New England College Coaches Showcase Camp for boys entering grades 10 to 12 will be held June 11-13 at Southern Maine Community College in South Portland. The camp is designed to give high school players a chance to show their talents in front of college coaches, who are the camp instructors. The overnight cost is $275, which includes two nights’ stay and five meals. The day rate is $200, which includes three meals. Bowdoin College track coach Peter Slovenski will direct the Old School Strength and Conditioning Camp for high school students on July 3 on Panther Pond in Raymond. The camp will combine traditional and modern exercises to help athletes get into shape for their upcoming sports. Exercises will include hill running, medicine ball drills, beach sprints, swimming and ladder running. The camp will also include free periods for campers to swim, kayak, play Wiffle ball and more.
