FALMOUTH — Dr. Michael L. Rayder, 78, died unexpectedly at home March 27. 

Born April 4, 1931, in Summit Hill, Penn., he was a son of Mary and Frank Rayder.

He graduated from Philips Andover Academy in 1949, Williams College in 1953 and Tufts Medical School in 1957. 

On June 30, 1956, he married Doris Janet Kiriluk in Bristol, Conn.

After medical school he served as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force.

For 36 years he practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Syracuse, N.Y. until 2001.

His love of golf was second only to his wife and family.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Doris; four children, his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Rayder and Stephen Mosley of Newton, Penn., son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Martha Rayder of Falmouth, son and daughter-in-law Shawn and Holly Rayder of Hampton, N.H., son and daughter-in-law Scott and Catherine Rayder of Reston, Va.; 13 grandchildren who will miss his bear hugs, wisdom and positive spirit, Ben, Brooke, Max, Kacey, Tommy, Cameron, Nicholas, Hannah, Jenna, Lucas, Abigail, Christopher and Joshua.

A private service was held this week.

Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
