Two Mainers have been awarded environmental merit awards by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The awards were made today at a presentation in Boston to 40 people and groups across New England.

Mainers honored are W. Donald Hudson, president of the Chewonki Foundation in Wiscasset, for ongoing efforts in environmental education and conservation in Maine, and Sophie Towle, a sixth grader from South Berwick for promoting composting, recycling and other environmental work at her school, Marshwood Middle School in Eliot.
