National symbols at Songo Locks School

Congratulations to Mrs. Wetmore and her second-grade class. They studied and did a presentation on some of America’s national symbols including the Statue of Liberty, the Washington Monument, Mount Rushmore and more. Each team of two researched their symbol. They then made posters and listed facts they thought interesting. In addition, they memorized a poem and learned songs about America, learned how to do the Pledge of Allegiance in sign language, and made hearts painted like flags. Parents were invited to share in all of this at an evening presentation put on by the students. Mrs. Wetmore would like to thank the parents and teachers who worked to make this project possible. Thanks also goes to Aubuchon Hardware for donating sand the students needed to hold their flags in buckets. I truly think a project like this should be required for all of us, young and old alike!

Songo Locks Student Council

Fifth-graders make up the Student Council at Songo Locks. Along with their advisors, they have been very busy. The Student Council generates positive activities that all students can participate in. Their recent projects include Pennies for Haiti, a safety patrol, Sports Day, turkey grams, Green Day, letters to soldiers and more. Congratulations to the very energetic students that make up the council. Their activities go a long way to help others and promote a positive spirit in the school. Student Council members include Lauren Williams, Meghan Brown, Catherine Christiansen, Holly Conlon, Andrew Terry, Elizabeth Girard, Jackson Dinsmore, and Kelly Paul. Advisors are Hilary Hamilton, Kate Overcash, Kathy Devoe, Betsey Wandishin and Heather Jordan. Thanks for all you do and keep up the good work!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to David Allenson, owner of Tony’s Foodland, for winning the Naples Grange Citizen of the Year award! Thank you David, for always being so generous with your time and resources when called upon! Thank you for the community events that you host throughout the year (my favorite is the Christmas Open House). And on a personal note, thank you very kindly for listening to a customer (me) and getting into the store an item you did not normally carry! Now that is customer service!

Congratulations to Barb McDonough and Boni Rickett, who were recipients of Eco-Maine’s Eco-Excellence award for initiating a recycling program for the Town Offices! They also are in the process of making the lighting more energy efficient.

Congratulations to the four Lake Region High School poets for winning the state poetry “Slam Competition.” Winners were Ashley McGinn, Monica Couvillion, Lauren Oliver and Teagan Ramos.
