BANGOR — Two Maine men convicted of murder are seeking to have their convictions overturned.

Attorneys for 51-year-old Joseph Dumas and 52-year-old Thomas Mitchell Jr. make their cases next Wednesday, May 19, in oral arguments before the Maine Supreme Judicial Court. Justices will hear the cases in Bangor at the Penobscot Judicial Center.

Dumas is serving a 30-year-sentence for killing Mario “Sonny” Litterio in November 2007 in Prentiss. At his trial, he said was suffering from a cocaine-induced psychosis when he shot his friend five times in the back and head.

Mitchell is serving a life sentence for the 1983 rape and murder of 23-year-old Judith Flagg in Fayette. The crime went unsolved until 2006, when testing of old evidence revealed Mitchell’s DNA.
