Police have confirmed that one person has died as a result of a car accident in Westbrook early this morning.

Jana Pooler, 22, of Portland, died following an accident around 1:15 a.m. She was driving in an Aveo that rolled over on the Westbrook Arterial. Her passenger, 24-year-old Danielle Duguay of Westbrook, was injured but is in fair condition at Maine Medical Center. Police say Pooler was apparently not wearing a seatbelt, and was ejected from the car. Alcohol and speed also may have been factors.

“Police will be actively pursuing the investigation, including the suggestion from a witness about possible over-service at a local bar,” Chief William Baker said in a media release.

Police have not confirmed that detail, but are investigating. Based on preliminary nature of the information, police are not releasing the name of the liquor establishment.
