AUGUSTA — Gov. John Baldacci is asking Maine voters to authorize the four bond issues totaling $108 million on the June 8 ballot.

In his weekly radio address, Baldacci says voters can give the economy a boost, help Maine small businesses and support energy independence by approving the bonds.

They include $26.5 million for offshore wind research and energy efficiency, $47.8 million for transportation, $23.75 million for community economic development and $10.25 million for clean water projects.

Baldacci says he understands the reluctance by some people to borrow. But he says Maine is very conservative with borrowing, paying its debts in less than half the time it takes most states.
