A South Portland man was sentenced to 45 years in the attempted murder of a man in Gray on May 23.

Jon Brown beat Harold Small with a blunt object at Small’s home in Gray, tied him up with duct tape and then shot him in the head with a small-caliber rifle.

PORTLAND — A South Portland man is scheduled to plead guilty this afternoon to the attempted murder of a man in Gray on May 23.

Jon Brown is set to appear at 2:30 p.m. at Cumberland County Superior Court.

Police say Brown beat Harold Small with a blunt object at Small’s home in Gray, tied him up with duct tape and then shot him in the head with a small-caliber rifle.

Small, 64, freed himself and went to a neighbor’s home for help.

Brown is charged with aggravated attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and elevated aggravated assault.

Brown already has a prior conviction for attempted murder. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for trying to kill a woman in Portland in 1983.
