TOPSHAM — Robert Helie, 89, died July 22 at Hawthorne House in Freeport.

Born Jan. 7, 1921, a son of Armand and Alice Rochefort, he attended St. John’s School in Brunswick.

On Aug. 30,1941, he married Dorothy Lassonde in Lewiston.

Over the years, he worked various jobs at Portland shipyards and Verney Mills, until he joined Fortin Fuel and Lumber, where he worked for 27 years.

An avid golfer, he was a member of the Brunswick Golf Club, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He loved visiting his grown children around the country and spending time with family at home

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy, on June 28, 2001, a  sister, Claire Gamache, and two brothers, Ovila and Maurice Helie.

Surviving are his four children and their spouses, Rose Minugh of Brunswick, Joan and Robert Hauri of St. Paul, Minn., John and Mary Helie of Baltimore, Md., and Rita Fenton of Clarks Summit, Penn.; 10 grandchildren, Christine, Catherine, Kimberly, Mark, Michelle, Michael, Daniel, Colleen, Molly and Aidan; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Zachary.

Visitation was held on Wednesday, and a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at St. John the Baptist Church, Brunswick..

Arrangements are by Demers-Desmond Funeral Home, 34 Cushing St., Brunswick.
