The Maine Department of Transportation announced today that it plans to close several southbound exits along Interstate 295 this week so that the exits can be paved.

All of the closures will occur at night between the hours of 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

MDOT spokesman Mark Latti Exit 6B (Forest Avenue North) will be closed tonight. Exit 6A (Forest Avenue South) will be shut down on Tuesday night.

On Thursday night, Exit 5B (Congress Street West) will close and on Friday night Exit 5A’s (Congress Street East) on and off ramps will be closed to traffic.

In addition to the exit closures, Latti said motorists travelling northbound on Interstate 295 starting at the Presumpscot River Bridge will be restricted to one lane of traffic as crews continue paving efforts along that stretch of road. The single travel lane will be maintained between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. tonight through Wednesday.
