A celebration of American Indian culture and heritage filled the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray with dancing, drumming circles, traditional foods, artwork and crafts on Saturday.

The Honor the Animals Native American Powwow began with the sacred Grand Entry at noon. Members of tribes from Maine, New England and Canada dressed in full Native American regalia for the event.

A wiki teepee was set up, complete with bedrolls, furs, axes and other camp equipment, to show visitors a typical traveling lodge historically used by Northeastern tribes.

The powwow continues today from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with another Grand Entry at noon.
