MEN’S LACROSSE: Tim Murphy, a native of Kennebunk, has been named head coach of the men’s lacrosse team at Husson, the school announced. He was a graduate assistant coach at Franklin Pierce last season.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Connecticut guard Caroline Doty suffered another knee injury and will miss the entire season. School officials said Doty, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee in late July, will have surgery.

SOCCER

WOMEN’S WORLD CUP: Mexico will host regional qualifying for the 2011 Women’s World Cup.

Qualifying will take place in Cancun and Playa del Carmen from Oct. 28 to Nov. 8. The United States, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Haiti will play in Group B in Playa del Carmen; and Canada, Guyana, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago will play in Group A in Cancun.

AUTO RACING

NASCAR: Team owner Jack Roush has been released from a Minnesota hospital two weeks after he suffered facial injuries in a Wisconsin plane crash. Roush Fenway Racing said it’s unclear when Roush will return to the racetrack.

GYMNASTICS

U.S. CHAMPIONSHIPS: Rebecca Bross took the lead heading into the finals at Hartford, Conn., hitting all four of her routines to take a 2.2-point lead over Mattie Larson.
