BRUNSWICK — A widespread outage knocked out power tonight to hundreds of customers in four midcoast towns.
When the outage started around 3:30 p.m. more than 7,000 customers in the towns of Brunswick, Freeport, Harpswell and Topsham lost electricity. By 10:30 p.m., more than 5,600 customers were still without power.
Central Maine Power Company said a fire on a transmission pole caused the outage.
The transmission pole, which is located off River Road, near Interstate 295, had to be replaced.
CMP was estimating that power to the communities would be restored sometime early Tuesday morning.
