Limited access available to Portland Head Light tower as part of “Open Lighthouse Day.” The museum in the former keepers’ quarters at Portland Head Light will be open and free that day. The tower will also be open to visitors. However, because of limited capacity, these guidelines have been established: tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis; twelve tickets will be given out for each 15-minute period from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; each ticket will show an admission time; children younger than 10 will not be admitted to tower; visitors must be able to climb 85-plus steps unassisted.

The Scarborough Garden Club is starting up again after a summer break with a meeting at noon. Meetings are held the third Monday of the month at St. Nicholas Church, 350 Route 1 in Scarborough. Most meetings are free and open to the public. There will be a social hour followed by a business meeting and a workshop in the cultivating of plant cuttings. Representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the State Planning Office will hold a public forum 6-9 p.m. at South Portland High School on proposed updates to federal flood hazard maps. FEMA is proposing updates to the maps, which may affect a homeowners’ necessity to purchase flood insurance, and could also restrict development opportunities.
