I never set foot in those buy-in-bulk places, because I don’t need that much of anything.

But those of you with big families might like “Big Buy Cooking” (Taunton Press, $19.95) from the editors at Fine Cooking magazine.

The subtitle sums it up: “The Food Lover’s Guide to Buying in Bulk and Using It All Up.”

If, for example, you went overboard buying chicken thighs or roasted red peppers at the big-box store, this book has a delicious-looking recipe for “Garlicky Chicken Thighs in Red Pepper Sauce.”

Too much cheddar on hand? Try using it up in “Poblanos Stuffed with Cheddar & Chicken,” “Cheddar & Cauliflower Soup” or “Baked Cheddar Grits with Bacon.”

Even if you aren’t into buying in bulk, there are ideas here for all those blueberries you packed away this summer (“Cornmeal Blueberry Pancakes with Spiced Maple Butter”) or the way-too-many fingerling potatoes you picked up at the farmers’ market (“Smashed Fingerling Potatoes with Red Wine Vinegar & Chives”).
