Cheverus High School, Portland: Rachel Hawkinson, a senior from Cumberland, is the recipient of the second $40,000 Leonard F. Ahern scholarship.
Three Cheverus students have been named All-State Jazz Musicians by the Maine Music Educators Association: Senior Gabe Terracciano of Portland was named to the Honors Jazz Combo, senior Will Maxwell of Yarmouth was named to the Honors Jazz Band, and junior Jake Boyce of Portland was named to the Honors Jazz Choir.
Hebron Academy: Polly Drown, a senior from Leeds, has been named a Commended Student in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Old Orchard Beach High School: James McDermott, a member of the class of 2010, qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with grades of 3 or higher.
Saco Middle School: Tristan Falardeau from Saco was recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. Falardeau was honored for exceptional performance on an above-grade-level test given to participants of the university’s Talent Search initiative.
