The Greely boys’ basketball preseason invitational will be held Friday and Saturday at Greely High and Greely Middle School. The tournament begins at 4 p.m. Friday at Greely High with Bonny Eagle playing Lake Region. At 5:30, Freeport and Windham meet, followed by Greely and Deering at 7. On Saturday, there are eight games at the middle school beginning at 9 a.m. and six games at the high school beginning at 10. There are 17 schools participating on Saturday. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for students. One admission is good for all games.

 

The University of Maine student-athlete advisory committee will be helping the U.S. Marine Corps collect toys for the annual Toys for Tots campaign. Fans are encouraged to bring new unwrapped toys to Alfond Arena in Orono during December. The committee will be collecting donations at the following events: men’s basketball on Dec. 4, 6 and 12; men’s hockey on Dec. 10 and 12; and women’s hockey on Dec. 10 and 11.

 

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the Maine Professional Guides Association are seeking nominations for the annual Wilmont “Wiggie” Robinson Legendary Maine Guide Award The award is named in honor of Wilmont Robinson, a well-respected outdoorsman who was a Master Maine Guide from 1950 until his death in 2007. Those interested in nominating a Maine Guide or Master Maine Guide may print nomination forms from the department’s website, www.mefishwildlife.com. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Dec. 10.
