Spirits ran high at the Bath train station on Saturday as passengers boarded the Candy Cane Train for a 90-minute ride to Wiscasset and back.

The Maine Eastern Railroad donates the train for the popular holiday tradition that raises funds for the Tri-County Literacy program.

Passengers who snapped up tickets (they sold out weeks ago) met Santa and enjoyed cookies and hot cocoa, storytelling and the Nor’easters Barbershop Chorus.

Volunteers from the Elks Lodge in Bath, high school cheerleading teams and the Maine 3-Railers model train club all helped make the event festive.
