ORANGE, Calif. – The University of Southern Maine women’s basketball team made just three field goals in the second half Friday as Chapman pulled away for a 61-49 victory in the Disneyland Classic.

It was the second straight loss in the tournament for the Huskies (5-6), who were beaten 52-48 by Occidental late Thursday night.

Brandi Hood had 19 points and 17 rebounds for Chapman (11-3) in Friday’s game. Courtney Cochran had 15 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocks for the Huskies, who trailed by five at halftime before going cold in the second half.

In Thursday night’s game, the teams battled through six ties and five lead changes in the final 10 minutes, with Kaylie DeMillo pulling the Huskies into a 48-48 tie with a layup with 32 seconds left before Michelle Lo gave the Tigers (4-5) the lead for good on a drive with 22 seconds to play.

Cochran scored a game-high 17 points with 12 rebounds, and reserve Nicole Garland added 10 points for the Huskies.

PLYMOUTH STATE 6, UNE 5: Andrew Stewart scored with 7:04 left as the Panthers (7-1-2) held off UNE (2-7) in the championship game of the PSU Invitational at Plymouth, N.H.

Jack Nolin scored twice for the Nor’easters, who rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game with three goals in the final seven minutes of the second period.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

COLBY 4, ST. MICHAEL’S 3: Marissa Simmons scored on an assist from Stephanie Scarpato to break a 3-3 tie with 7:38 left in the second period as the Mules (3-6) beat the Purple Knights (2-9-1) in the St. Michael’s Holiday Classic at South Burlington, Vt.

Scarpato finished with two goals and two assists.
